ACDSee do have subscription plans available but I only use one of the packages on offer so it didn't make sense for me to use a plan. It is sold as being valid for a year, just like every other software maker who offers upgrade assurance. The upgrade assurance is not advertised anywhere on the ACDSee web site as a "subscription" plan. The idea that ACDSee openly sell a subscription plan then offer upgrade assurance that is really just a subscription as well is entirely unacceptable. The cost for me to purchase an upgrade to the current version is actually less than the cost of the upgrade assurance as seen below. I will not pay again for an upgrade that should rightfully be mine due to fact that the software was released while I was still covered by the last upgrade assurance. The ACDSee web site does not make this clear stating "Upgrade Assurance guarantees you a year of protection for updates and major upgrades, and is renewed annually from the date of purchase." "The Upgrade Assurance for ACDSee Photo Studio Ultimate is subscription with annual payment If the subscription is not renewed the programs which is registered with this plan will stop working." I contacted ACDSee support asking them to provide me with a serial so that I could register since the software should be mine under the terms of the upgrade assurance and they replied: Yesterday I went to use the software on my machine and was greeted with the message that my "subscription" had not been renewed so my software was no longer available for my use. I cancelled the upgrade assurance last month since with all the offers coming in their newsletters it didn't make sense to pay $59.99 per year for upgrade assurance on software on which the generally annual upgrade price was less than $50 in any case. I purchased the upgrade assurance with my last upgrade and had it for a year during which time I upgraded to the current version, ACDSee Photo Studio Ultimate 2020. I had used their "Family Plan" and "Home Plan" package subscriptions a couple of times which gave access to a couple of other programs but still kept upgrading the main package, ACDSee Pro and lately Ultimate. As a long time user of ACDSee since version 3 and having owned every version of their Pro version since version 2 I am now cutting my ties with them completely.
